Hunting in Ohio

Question:
I am located in Central Pennsylvania and would like to hunt whitetail deer in Ohio with a bow. I have gathered information throughtout the last couple of months and have received many contradictions. I have several questions for anyone who knows a little bit about hunting areas in Ohio. Typically, what areas of the state are recommended for whitetail hunting?

Answer:
You can call any of the Ohio Division of Wildlife numbers such as the Headquarters in Columbus at: 614-265-6300 or 800-WILDLIFE (I don't know if this works from out of state, I assume it does). I called this year and they sent me a map of all the state lands in Ohio. You'd still need to get topo's or other detailed maps (some also available from the Ohio Division of Wildlife) of the areas of interest to you. Here's a news story dated 9-13-99 that discusses the deer herd status: http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/odnr/wildlife/news/weekly/ap91399.html Here's a page that gives the actual 1998 deer season harvest results: http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/odnr/wildlife/news/weekly/jw62599.html If you look here you'll see info just for Deer Archers waiting for the 99-00 season to start (October 2!): http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/odnr/wildlife/news/weekly/jw92099.html
