Question:
I am being transferred to oregon from texas. I would like some info on
hunting in the state. What licenses can you buy over the counter?
Where are good areas near eugene?
Answer:
As for my Montana experiences, most have been in north-eastern Montana, with
my preference being the Glasgow, Hinsdale, Malta and Harlem areas. I have
been successful every year since 1983 in harvesting whitetail deer, mule
deer, "antelope" and several elk. My average number of kills per year is
between 10 and 12. And I don't hunt black powder or bow...if I did, then
the legal limit would be somwhere around 21 animals per year, depending upon
the year.
Nowhere in Oregon can you harvest that many animals...
In addition, Montana also has excellent duck, goose, pheasant, hun, dove,
sage hen, grouse, prairie dog and rabbit hunting.
I have seen the elk in Oregon, and unfortunately, none were more than a
spike and all were on protected lands. I have seen the "antelope" in
Oregon, and they are scrawny and small and located, again, on protected
lands. I have seen the deer in Oregon, and the are generally on the
roadside...and I have seen the requirements and regulations for hunting in
Oregon...and they are a joke...
I must also admit that hunting in Colorado, California, Pennsylvania,
Mississippi, Louisiana and northern Florida is also more interesting than
hunting in Oregon...as is Wyoming.
