Fly Fishing in Texas

Question:
I Do a lot of fly fishing ( when I'm in Ohio! ) I catch a lot of pan fish doing it, however, do not have as much luck here in Texas as I did in Ohio. Anybody got any good fly fishing tips in Texas?

Answer:
Try the Guadalupe River, about 40 miles North of San Antonio, where it discharges below Canyon Lake Dam. Trout are stocked here from time to time and, even though they don't survive the summer, there can be good action in fall through spring. In the latest issue of Southwestern Fly Fisherman, there is an article on fishing the Guadalupe. Or, if you are looking for heavy duty saltwater fishing, try fishing for Reds in any of the shallow bays along the Texas Coast.
