Question:
IWhere are you fishing?
Answer:
I fish in Connecticut and Massachussettes. Since I have recently
taken up flyfishing and have been a long time fisherman in the winter
months, mainly small streams and rivers, I am interested in finding out
what are the best patterns for fishing when the water gets so cold. Surely,
nymphs would not be in a trout's diet at this time because they would all
be deep in the sediment and mud (is this an accurate assumption?). Therefore
it would seem that certain flies that would mimick small minows.
Before F.F. (fly fishing) I have fished many small streams and rivers with
ultralight tackle and the lure that produced the most fish has always been
a muddler minow spin fly. I have pleanty of muddlers in my fly box but I am
curios as to what else works or what others have found to be really productive
in the cold months.
