Question:
I live in southern California and would like to know if any one knows of
semi-good fishing with in 8 hours drive but still in California.
Answer:
There is great fishing on the east side of the sierra within eight hours of
LA. Head up to the Owens or Hot creek for technical dry fly fishing. If you
get frustrated with that turn left up any of the drainages and fish the small
streams or tube the accessible lakes. You can fish a lifetime and not hit
them all. If you backpack go just over the crest and you'll find goldens.
Then try tubing in lake Crowley for large rainbows and browns. If you can't
get any of them try coves for the Sacramento Perch, the best tasting fish in
the world when filleted and fried in a batter of bisquick and beer.
You are within eight hours of fishing heaven. Forget semi-good fishing, you'll
be in em thick.
