Question:
I live for deer season. From the time archery season opens the last
Saturday in September until the last day of gun season, I live in the
woods. Usually, I find several scrapes and rubs to hunt near, but this
year I haven't found the first scrape. I know there are bucks out
there because I left some last year. Is the rut late or something?
Answer:
I also hunt in TN (for the past 20 or so years) and have NEVER (very
rarely) seen a scrape this early. In TN usually the rut will begin to
heat up the first week of November. Start looking for scrapes then.....
Also, FYI, lately I've been seeing 2 to 16 does on each hunt and haven't
seen ANY bucks interested yet. Although I have seen some young bucks
traveling with the does, they aren't avtivly persuing them....
(I hunt in middle in east TN mostly, I figure that it's pretty much the
same in the western part of the state too.
