Question:
I did not know I spelled "stealhead" instead of "steelhead." Since I
want to exchange information on steelhead, fly fishing, the Skykomish and
other rivers in Washington, I am posting this with the correct subject.
Any information regarding the subjects will be welcome.
Answer:
Well, I'm not a fly fisherman myself, but I do fish the Sky and it's
tributaries. There are several areas (most seem to be on the south side of the
river) between Monroe and Sultan that people bank fish regularly. I don't
know exactly how to get to some of them, but I assume you'd get to them off
the Ben Howard Road. If you're not familiar with it, it runs on the south side
of the Sky, from Hwy 203 just south of the bridge at Monroe, to the bridge in
Sultan.
Ever try for chum salmon? They're running pretty thick in the Sky right now.
We were fishing for chums a couple weeks ago and a fly fisherman came to try
his luck. I'd say he did at least as good as we did, I remember seeing him
with fish on more than once. I'd didn't see exactly what kind of fly he was
using, but I'll guess something in a chartruese or pink, since that what seems
to be the hot item for chums.
