Question:
I am considering buying one of those pup tent like hunting blinds for
bow and gun hunting. I have a worry that bowhunting out of one may be
tough, since the deer will be within close range and I would imagine
somewhat nervous at seeing this camouflaged thing not too many yards
away. That is, if they get close to it at all.
Leaving the stand in place for extended periods of time to allow the
deer to get used to it is NOT an option. So, for bowhunting purposes
would I be wasting my money? Any experiences with these types of
blinds, especially related to bowhunting, would be appreciated.
Answer:
I am not sure what kind of terrain you are hunting in but based on
your description of restrictions I would suggest you build a blind on
site with natural vegitation / tree limbs, etc. It is not so much the
site of a camoflage item (if it is cammo visually it should blend in)
but rather the smell of the item. Using existing vegitation does not
create scent issues that can frighten deer.
The primary purpose of a blind is to hide movement. If you can sit
still then the blind does not have to fully conceal you.
