Question:
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what is the best archery target on the
market for target archery. My husband has been looking all over the net to
find one and we have not really understood what all the different types are.
We are new to this.
Answer:
If you're looking for a back stop you can do pretty well with hay
bales if you have a place to set them and not have to move them. If you use
hay be aware that arrows that hit right between the bales have a good
likleyhood of zipping right between the bales. If you do something fancy
and make a frame to compress them together you can eliminate the problem.
Excelsior bales are even better as they survive weather easier.
If you want something nicer and pretty much as un-portable the Saunders mat
is pretty good. It's a woven grass mat. Big and round. Problem with them
is the shipping you might entail on ordering if no one in your area sells
them.
Foam targets are very portable and will stop your arrow just fine. You
don't need to get one of the more expensive types that are designed to also
handle broadheads if you're only doing target archery. Foam targets come in
a lot of different sizes and styles, it's pretty much a matter of picking
out one you like.
Now, if you mean target faces... just get the same one that you normally
shoot on in the SCA so you can get used to aiming points and such. If you
want a break from the routine then the sky and your imagination is the
limit.
