Question:
I'm new to North Carolina, looking for information on deer hunting within a two hour drive of Greensboro or a hunting partner. I hunt bow, shotgun, rifle and black powder. Recently completed "hunter safety course", would also like to hunt Turkey and Boar.
I would like to contact land owners or clubs for permission to hunt. Would follow any rules as required.
Answer:
I currently live down in Wilmington, However I grew up in Durham.
Lots of good deer hunting in NC. Granville county, to the north is excellent. One suggestion is to start collecting as many sunday newspapers as you can from all
the areas around you. Check the Sporting Goods in the classifieds and you should
see some hunt club ads. Down here, the clubs are hard to locate, and even more difficult to join. However, NOW is the time. Taxes will be due soon and most clubs
have to add members to bolster their finances and replace inactive members.
We have had several ads here in the last week, and I just Joined 2.
You may want to check out the Uhwarrie (sp?) game lands....excellent hunting there
as well...even though season opens later. Down here in the East....Our Rifle season comes in mid October! Having lived in NC all my life, the most prolific hunting county
for white tail would have to be Bladen County....Of course....not all kills are reported.
Bladed would fall within your 2 hour limit...and Elizibethtown is the county seat I believe.
If you are interested in an Elk Hunt in October.....let me know. I just posted a note to
the group because we had a hunter back out.
