Question:
I'd like to spend several days camping and fishing in a somewhat
remote area. Well, as remote as a couple of tourists with a little child
would realistically drive into. What are some areas I could look into?
Answer:
book which is now a bit dated but still would be of use to read is
Rex Forrester's "Trout Fishing in NZ" published by Penguin Books (NZ)
Ltd. Revised edition printed 1987. Remember that some of the
information is past its use by date eg., prices.
A good source of information would be the Fish and Game Councils. NZ
is divided into 6 or 7 F&G Council areas. They supply information on
local regulations, fishing spots and angler access to these areas by
way of pamphlets which include maps. The addresses for the two F&G
Councils I have are listed below but you may be able to obtain all the
information and maps you require from Fish and Game NZ, PO Box 13-141
Wellington.
Wellington Fish and Game Council, PO Box 1325 Palmerston North.
Eastern Fish and Game, Private Bag 3010 Rotorua.
You can leave your waders at home during our summer months and bring a
6/7 wgt rod.
