Question:
I seen an article recently that gave some enlightenment
as to the moon phases and how it affects deer movement..I thought I'd
share some of it with you..
Good post and good information. I work with a guy that swears by the moon
phase for whitetail hunting here in Oklahoma. He even goes a far as
"staying at home" on days that he feels the moon doesn't line up right. I
take a little different approach that you can't harvest one setting at home,
but I do know some days are more productive than others
Here is a website he uses to monitor the Moon phases. He showed me how to
> use it once, but I have since forgotten.
Answer:
Don't know about the phases of the moon, but I was raised on the theory that all
wildlife (including fish) activities/feeding is greatest starting approximately
3 hours after moon rise and ramping up to about 6 hours(peak) after moon
rise, then ramping down for about 3 hours. This is considered the "Major" period.
Then a "minor" period occurs on the same cycle at "moon set" - even if it's in
the middle of the day.
Haven't done any scientific studies, but it seems to work out. I've seen/killed
about as many deer in the middle of the day as early morning and or late
evening, which most people think of as the "best" time. I have friends who won't
bother to hunt or fish at any other time.
