Cows & Deer Hunting

Question:
The guy we lease our hunting land from has put 23 head of cattle on the 600 acres we hunt. He did it the last year towards the end of the hunting season. I feel the cattle being there will hurt the deer hunting. It seems like if the cattle are grazing in the pasture where I have my stand , I don't think the deer will move in. What is your opinion/ suggestion?

Answer:
When I lived in eastern Montana, there would often be cattle and deer in the same field, although separated. A lot of it has to do with available food supply. As long as the deer and cattle are used to each other being on the same patch of land, there should not be too much of a problem. One thing to note: Cattle will not eat in areas where deer have urinated. This is often a farmers biggest complaint against deer - they will walk all over hay stacks, piss, then the cattle don't want the hay.
