Question:
#Is the 45LC a powerful enough round for whitetail?
#Can anyone recommend some off the self 45LC hunting ammo?
Answer:
While many .45LC handloads are more than adequate for deer, normal
"factory" loads are too weak IMO. Some of the specialty loaders like
Garrett or CorBon make some 'hot' loads, but the average Rem/WW/Fed
load will be no more powerful in a rifle than it is in a revolver - it
may even be weaker depending on the rifle barrel's length.
With a 50 yard limit, I'd look for something with at least 240 grains
up to 300. The heavier bullets will allow good penetration on a
running-away deer, something that the lighter bullets may not do so
well. The 300s are both tougher and have a higher sectional density.
