Question:
Looking for info on bass fishing opportunities and guides in mid-January,
New Orleans area. Any suggestions?
Answer:
The other marina in Venice is Venice Marina, and you can call their
hotline for reports every evening at 1-504-534-7701. I don't remember
their direct # off hand.
Am not sure where you are but New Orleans has a mega-AM station (WWL 870
on the AM dial) that pumps 50,000 watts. Every Saturday morning from 5-7
the sportsman show talks a bunch of fishing stuff, including reports
from several marinas and guides in south Louisiana. I hear people call
in from major distances and they describe themselves as regular
listeners. I am sure if you call, they will give you the names and
numbers of hot guides for Bassin'. I think the talk-show # is 1-504-593-2180.
I have caught 2 bass in my life, so I cannot give much tech advice
except that I have the impression thru WWL that Herman Sollars (unsure
spelling last name) is a good one for the Port Sulfur-Venice area. I
think Herman might live in Port Surphur. I am good friends with Randy
Gros, 1-504-314-5683, who guides out of Lafitte which is a bit easier to
get to than is Venice. Where ever you go in the coastal LA marshes, you
stand a good chance of taking bass, trout, and redfish, and possibly
flounder on the same trip in the same area, but if it's windy and/or the
water movement is off you better haved a good guide
