Question:
I have just moved to Kentucky from Alaska and was wondering how the deer
hunting is in Kentucky? I am living in Louisville and was wondering where
good areas to hunt are?
Answer:
The preferred weapon seems to be Kenworth Diesels. They seem to score
as many or more than Peterbuilts. Seriously, gun and hunting laws
aren't too bad. Lots of public land, but that opinion is relative.
There is a huge, by eastern standards, national forest that stretches
from the Ohio River in Eastern KY (the thickest part of the state) all
the way to the Tennesse line. It picks up there and continues.
Called the Daniel Boone National Forest. Obtain a map of the state
and you'll see it. There is a generally ignored state law that
requires written permission to hunt on private land. Its only polite
to obtain verbal permission first. Smart hunters don't show up before
dawn on opening day and pound on doors asking. Make a few
scouting trips and ask at that time. Southern folk are pretty nice.
Ask politely and they'll help you. Offend them and Katie bar the
door. Way too many deer, some need shooting.
