Question:
I'm thinking about taking the BIG dive and upgrading to a real rifle.
I'm pretty well set on Remington (so don't give me any grief). The problem
is I don't know what caliber to go for. I'm thinking about 30-06 but
someone said check into a 30-30 or .270.
Answer:
would pick either the .270 or .30-06 for Kansas deer hunting. The
.30-30 is quite similar in performance to the 7.63x39 you have in the
SKS. With the .30-06 you should not need another gun for most
American big game. With the .270 you will get a bit flatter trajectory
then the '06 in a trade off for lighter bullets. You could not go
wrong with either choice. BTW there are a lot of folks in this part of
the country (ND and Western MN) that really like the Remingtons.
