Question:
Every year I go out gun hunting in wisconsin, I usually dont see to
many deer. The reason I dont see the deer is because the underbrush is
very very thick and it stands atleast 7 feet tall. But every year at
the end of the season we do some very large drives, and ever year we
kick out lots and lots of deer from these thick spots.
I guess I am looking for information on stalking a deer, what
equipment will I need ( clothes, boots, scent blocker stuff?) How
should I go about sneaking through the woods? Should I carry a
backpack, if so what would you carry? Would you bring some kind of
stool to sit on? I would like to beat the deer hunting it, I think
that would be a heck of accomplishment for me, and somthing I could
always look back on.
Answer:
I still hunt quite often and I prefer to use this method after a nice
rain or when it is windy. Try to walk with the wind in your face or in
a cross wind. I use some sort of cover scent. During the rut I use Tink's
69, early and late season I use fox scent. Definately wear blaze orange.
I wear scent free rubber knee boot with two pair of socks. I carry a
backpack with water, toilet paper, license, orange tape to mark blood
trails if necessary, and any thing else you feel you need. If you use a
scope make sure you look through it frequently to make sure the power is
not too high for area your hunting. The last thing you want is to have a deer five yards away and have your scope on nine power.
