Question:
I will be in North Georgia this weekend, and should be able to fly fish
a bit on Sunday, Feb. 23. I know I've seen message traffic in this
website about North Georgia trout streams, but darned if I can find
where I put those message threads. Anyone out there have any
suggestions for North Georgia trout streams? I've been to Helen, and
fished the Soque and Chatahoochie while there. I paid dearly to fish
the Soque. Well worth it once; maybe I'll do it again, but not this
weekend. I barely wet a fly in the 'Hooch, so don't know much about it.
So, whatever help you can give, I'd much appreciate.
Answer:
I fished the Hooch through Helen a few weeks ago (by default, could not
get a slot at Smithgall on Dukes Creek) and had a very good day. I waded
in behind the flea market and fish down through town maybe a mile and
caught several nice rainbows and browns. You also might try to get a
slot on Dukes Creek - it's been fishing very well. If you have time to
hike-in, depending on where you'll be, there are good small streams
throughout the area. If I can be of more assistance, let me know.
Best regards,
