Question:
I have become interested to trout fishing the last couple of years but
have not enjoyed great success. I do not use fly fishing equipment but
have been trying spinners and other various things for bait. I've been
ice fishing and have seen lots of fish swimming by the hole, so I know
that they are down there, but don't seem interested in what I have to
offer them for lunch. Does anyone have any secrets they would be willing
to share in terms of what to use or not use re bait. Any comments or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
Well, what kind of trout are you fishing? Makes a difference. But if theyre
rainbows, try out that blue fox minnowspin in the rainbow trout finish.
And worms too. And dont be shy where you go fishing. A lot of old timers
dont mind helping out us folks that haven't been at it as long. They sure
have helped me. Local tackle shops are great places to learn, cause they
know the area and whats working and whats not. For instance, trout where
youre at may not be too impressed with that blue fox lure, but where I fish,
they sure are. But on the other hand, my best lure from last year didnt do
much this year on the same streams and lakes. Standard bait for rainbows are
salmon eggs, power bait, cheese, and nightcrawlers. Browns will eat
nightcrawlers and crickets, but they usually wont take eggs, power bait, or
cheese. Brookies I dont know much about. Hard to go wrong on nightcrawlers
tho.
