Question:
I am planning a trip to Ireland. need info o Salmon rigs, locations,
time of runs, and gear. please let me know any info or expierence
Answer:
You need: 'Trout & salmon rivers of Ireland, an anglers guide' by
Peter O'Reilly, Merlin Unwin Books 1991 and later editions.
ISBN 1-873674-09-0
Take whatever tackle you fancy, somewhere in Ireland there'll be a
chance to use it. There are a few 'posh' beats on some of the more
famous rivers, and near larger towns where you'll be constrained by
old fashoined rules. Most rivers are pretty free-and-easy; cheap too.
Some of the fishing is first-class, not easy, but if you fish well,
you'll catch.
Go to the nearest pub, ask who knows about the local fishing, and the
whole bar will come down with you to help and advise.
Time is complicated in Ireland, allow at least a fortnight away from
the rest of the world if you intend to spend a week there. I always
seem to have to leave almost as soon as I've properly arrived, leave
your watch at home.
