Question:
Well I have done a little Sea Fishing before, many years ago.
What would the cost of a typcial day ticket be at a fishery? I was
having a chat with someone a few days ago who mentioned that he
thought a season license would be something like ¡ê1500 but I now seen
that the actual license would be ¡ê22.25 for a full season. SO are the
actual ticket prices usually expensive? I am actually talking about
the Denford Fishery in Hungerford in Berks so if someone knows of the
actual cost that would be ideal. :
: Would my old sea rod be okay for fly fishing?
Answer:
what fish are you going for?
you say fly-fishing so i assume trout?
if you're just generally coarse fishing, a decent quality match rod would
suffice to begin with, as it is fairly robust and cheap to buy.
i started with a junior match rod which i bought second hand for a tenner
and used it for a year, catching all coarse fish from a few ounces to about
6-7lb.
after i'd caught a few larger fish i purchased a bottom of the range carp
rod for ¡ê20 (buy the angling times and browse the mail order ads - you can
get some good stuff !)
most commercial fisheries up here in the north are priced at ¡ê3 to ¡ê10 per
day with the average being a fiver.
for trout fisheries there is usually a higher charge because you take the
fish home with you, but even these are only usually about 15-20 quid a
session with a three fish limit.
if your getting into fly-fishing, you may want to take a trip to the lake
district, where the brown trout are abundant and you can keep all you
catch(most campsites/farms etc have fishing rights to the lake their land
adjoins)
you will need an environment agency rod licence whichever type of fishing
you decide to take up, details here:
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/fish/399730/?version=1
there are different prices for salmon and trout, so youd better check before
you buy.
a sea fishing rod would be useless for fly-fishing as they are as stiff as a
board, whereas a fly rod is 'whippy'
dont go out and spend a fortune on tackle/rods etc etc until you've tried it
and decided you like it or not, you may prefer coarse fishing as the quarry
can be anything up to 60lbs!
