Question:
The way I see it, if you can't hunt in your own DANG STATE- DON'T HUNT
AT ALL!!!!!!!!! OR MOVE!!!!! I once had over 2000 acres to hunt thanks
to great neighbors and family. But all of a sudden over the past six to
seven years I have lost almost all of my lease to out of state hunters
that pay SIX TIMES what the land is actually worth. It's just not me but
all across the south. I'm from MS and I see more hunters from Louisanna
than I do from Mississippi.
Answer:
Unfortunately, even the north will be seeing "leases" as time advances. We're
starting to see it in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and it won't be long before
Wisconsin and Michigan join in if they already aren't. For today's farmer, the
extra money is simply too inviting.
I don't know about where y'all live, but here in Missouri there is tons of
acreage being sold off in blocks from the old family farm. Where once farms
were put up for sale as a block of 300 or 500 or 600 acres, now we are seeing
them in packages of 60 or 100 acres with descriptors being added for us
hunters: "Parcel two; 120 acres, 40 tillable 80 in deer and turkey habitat.
Loaded with game."
It just might be time to start looking at getting some of your hunting buddys
together and buying one of those parcels, even if it's not in your home state.
Then you can work it to improve YOUR deer herd, and even rent out the tillable
land or lease it for pasture and get a few dollars back a year anyway.
We ALL....or at least those of us over 50 years old...used to be able to hunt
all over the place. Times have changed and if you aren't keen on hunting
public lands then you will have to change too.
