Deer hunting

Question:
The population of humans that hunt is between 7-10%. Hunting is more of a sport rather than meat and other products. Hunting is on the decline. Let's hope someday hunting will be a killing of the past.

Answer:
where i grew up, hunting wasn't a sport. it was specifically done for food, and any animals taken were used for food. further, with no natural predators but man, the deer population would explode to the point of causing prolonged suffering in times of short food supplies, or alternatively becoming road kill. other large mammals, such as sheep, goat, elk etc. are indeed taken mostly for sport, and are few enough in numbers and in isolated enough areas which do have predators (albeit few) that i'm personally troubled by continued hunting. but deer (and canada geese, for that matter) need to be kept in check through controlled taking of animals. but i'm with you: anyone who hunts for 'sport' is a little touched in the head in my view. some sport.
