Question:
have a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum w/ the standard 28"
vent-rib barrel with the Modified Rem Choke.
Will this barrell support deer slugs or will slugs wreck the barrell?
Answer:
The traditional Foster-pattern or the Original Brennekes shouldn't hurt even a full choke but there are rifled choke tubes you could buy that would help spin up the newer saboted projectiles. Add a saddle mount from B-Square and low powered Weaver scope and
you'll be all set. The other way to go is to buy a 20 inch rifle sighted barrel - rifled or cylinder bore - and hunt with open sights. I suppose the clamp on open sights that grip your vent rib constitute a third way, but I have no experience with them.
