How much harder is archery hunting than rifle?

Question:
I was thinking about trying bow hunting sometime in the near future. Just to mass the information and gear will be a job, not to mention becoming proficient. I been hunting with a rifle for the last 15 years, archery hunting seems like it would be a fun change, on the other it seems a lot harder. What can I expect? I am 47 years old and in very good shape, but maybe this is a younger man's/woman's sport? Do people bow hunt when they get up to 60?

Answer:
I am nearly 50 and I bowhunt and gun hunt. There is no comparison between bowhunting and gunhunting. Bowhunting is an upclose and personal sport. You must become proficient with a bow (either compound or traditional) before you begin to pursue game. It will take you awhile to develop the skill and know how. Archery is a real kick and you may just like to target shoot. I find it very enjoyable to be able to put an arrow in a target at 40 yds. Expect alot of frustration even when you become proficient with the bow at target shooting. Deer will be out of range or spook at the slightess sound. I still get buck fever when bowhunting because the sight of a deer at 10-20 yds is very unnerving. At times it is not easy, but it is an experience that I am glad I started and will continue to do as long as I can draw a bow, climb a tree and drag a deer.
