Question:
This maybe out off the spirit of this group, but it's the closest i found.
Can anyone give the names, and publishers, of some good books on
traditional bow making?
Answer:
Go to stickbow.com... Got lots of info on books and videos. I've got a couple on primitive & native stuff, and also "Bent Stick" by Comstock. Bowyers Bibles are nice if you have the money. I made myself save for them, and am not sorry. Based on extensively reading them over and over again (highlighter and yellow stickies through and through), I got the courage to turn a crooked piece of hickory into three snakey bows. All low poundage because the billet split funny and I had to compensate. But it's lots of fun, even if you're desperate to get a bow to feed yourself. And they all shoot better than I, so I am
cutting two of them down for a friends kids, and the poundage will go up enough for them to use hunting. Pay more attention to the arrows, however, they are usually harder to get right, and the critical element in the equation, assuming you can hit anything. A stickbow is lot's different from that mechanical thing I use to knock off my fletching on a regular basis. Yeah, you can get that good with laser sights and a release. So good I regularly see arrows (alum) telescoped into each other where the guy forgot to use a new aimpoint for each arrow
