Question:
where better than Alaska?
Answer:
I live in Sterling, Alaska, on the Kenai Peninsula. The Kenai river is my choice for the kings of course. I had a client land a 45# on a 9wt last year. From a powerboat its not rocket scientist stuff, but from shore of course it would be a whole different ball game. Talon Air in Soldotna is a reputable air transport company for flyouts. A word of caution, if you intend to fish the Kenai river for silvers, it is closed Aug 1,2, and 3rd for the targeting of silvers. First run is still pretty slow that time of year. I have "Flyfishing Alaska" and it is a great book. Sockeye salmon are usually still plentiful and are a blast on a 7wt, which I use for both reds and silvers. SO, hope you have a good trip and if you're in my area, stop by and we'll wet a line. I can get you to places on the Kenai, in the wildlife refuge, you cant walk to. Could even drop you off for a couple of days, just don't bring any pepper spray, the brownies use it for mouth wash...:) If you want more info on flies and equipment, you can email me at freeb...@ptialaska.net. This is not a sales pitch, just offering what I have on a daily basis to another flyrodde
