Question:
Does anybody have any recommendations on a resonable guide and lodge?
Answer:
I encourage you to check out a listing of Alaskan links which might help you in choosing a fishing destination. http://www.alaska.net There are so many lodges and guiding services... and everyone promises big fish, lots of 'em, and super service. I think it is similar to
buying a computer - set your price limit, know what features are essential, research the product to ensure quality (word of mouth is best), and then make a decision and go for it!
I'm a born and raised Alaskan and know of too many people who've had a terrible vacation from lack of research/planning... you're on the right track though!
Time of year depends on type of fly-fishing you want to do (dry/streamers/eggs) and whether you want to fish the same river every day, spend the money for fly-out every day, or rafting a river. Last year we experienced a drought in our region (Bristol Bay/ Lake Iliamna)
and many rivers were too low to boat so we did a lot more walking than normal - however, fishing for rainbows was excellent overall!
